Against The Police

In the early years, when they started to sing until, their big popularity. The Wailers had some problems with the justice.

In late 60s, Bunny has been arrested by the police for a control, when they found a big bag with some kilos of ganja. They transported him in the police station and they judged him for 14 months in the Richmont Farm prison. Bob Marley was arrested for ganja possession he past 1 month in jail and he never forgot this experience, after that he always considered himself like a prisonner.

One day Peter has been arrested by the police in a manifesation with Prince Buster to protest against the transfer of Ian Smith and about the creation of a racist state in Rhodesia. Words circulate that one day Bunny and Peter were controled by police, Bunny had gun and Peter took the responsability, but when they arrived in the police station the situation reversed, Bunny went to jail and when he left it he was furious because he was sacrified for Peter without compensation (For sure false rumor!).

Peter Tosh has been arrested in 1972 because he was smocking herb (check The Wailers section to have more details). 6 years later, after his great performance at the One Love Peace Concert, Peter has been arrested again in front of studio, they caught and transported him in the police station. They closed the door, chased the people and beaten him severly during over 1 hour, their intention was to kill Peter Tosh, so he played the dead and the policemen said "Yes he is dead".After this incident a french journalist asks to Bob Marley if he saw Peter and what he thought about this incident he said "yes he is cool, it's ignorance, ignorance in the police side".

In spring of 1977 in London, when Bob Marley was in the top of his solo carrer, he has been arrested with Aston Barrett when they drove in LadeBroke Grove. The police found ganja in the car.They past in the court and got fine of 50 pounds. In 1978 before the One Love Peace Concert the police was always present in 56 Hope Road for control because during this time Bucky Marshall and Claudie Massop were often in Hope Road with Bob. In 1980 Bob Marley has spoken about the situation in 56 Hope Road, he had a big Sound System wich played music day and night, his neighbors disliked this, they were fed up so the police came and said to Bob to stop the music "I want to disturb my neighbour,
"Cause I'm feelin' so right, I want to turn up my disco,Blow them to full watts tonight, In a rub-a-dub style".
